The Intertemporal Symposium on Miami History is an experimental public gathering that brings together historians, artists, scholars, and residents to explore the city’s layered past through multimedia storytelling, performance, and dialogue. Designed as a living, breathing history experience, the symposium disrupts traditional academic formats by merging archival research with creative interpretation. From skyscrapers and cemeteries to wetlands and street corners, each event investigates a specific theme or location in Miami’s history, inviting the public to time travel through place-based memory and speculative futures.
Launched as a proof of concept in 2024, the symposium is now expanding into a city-wide series of free public programs produced in partnership with cultural institutions like Dade Heritage Trust. Events are held in historically significant spaces and often incorporate projections, lectures, video art, and interactive installations. The goal is to deepen public understanding of Miami’s complex past while empowering communities to see themselves as stewards of local history—and the authors of what comes next.
